Forensic Lipreading

There has been media interest in Forensic lipreading due to the ITV drama series “Code of Silence”. Deaf actor Rose Ayling-Ellis plays the part of ‘Alison’ who supports the police in their investigations by lipreading suspects and then becomes involved in the world of criminals.

Rose has been a great advocate for understanding deaf awareness strategies and learning BSL sign language in the community. She recognizes lipreading as another useful tool to support communication for deaf and hard of hearing adults.

If you are interested in learning to lipread, please get in touch. I teach a variety of classes for groups and individuals. However, online classes are not designed to train "forensic" lipreaders!

ALL ABOUT ME

I am a qualified Teacher of Lipreading and support adults who are hard of hearing or have lost their hearing through accident, illness or age. I teach group classes or individual sessions according to need.

I am a Teacher of the Deaf having qualified at Manchester University with a degree in Education and Audiology. I now work part time as an advisory teacher with deaf and hearing-impaired children.

With my audiology background, I am also a listening coach supporting adults to make the most of their residual hearing and those who are learning to listen with amplification such as hearing aids, cochlear implants or BAHAs.

I am outgoing and friendly and enjoy interacting and getting to know people. I have a good understanding of deaf awareness and the difficulties people come across when they lose their hearing. I know about hearing aids and cochlear implants and try to keep up to date as technology advances. I understand the importance of communication and am eager to help people to communicate better to support their well-being.

Learn to Lipread

Lipreading is a vital communication skill for many people with a hearing loss. It's the ability to recognise the lip shapes, gestures and facial movements of a person when they are speaking, in order to gain a better understanding of what they are saying.

Listening Coaching

Gradually over time we all lose some of our hearing and our brain learns to focus on the sounds we can hear not the missing sounds. When hearing aids are issued some of those previously missing sounds are audible again. The brain needs to be retrained to utilize the ‘new’ sounds.
